Olympics 2012 on BBC and NBC

{ Posted on Aug 08 2012 by admin } in Categories : General

While i am not a sports fan in general,  many people will be watching the Olympics this year unless of course they can’t get coverage in their country or with commentry in English. While the BBC has a wonderful site here with live and recorded highlights of most events, it is available in the UK only (which sucks) and NBC is broadcasting it online in the USA. It should therefore come as no surprise that VPN providers are seeing a huge boost in sales since the opening ceremony on July 27 with many of them offering good deals during the events. This site has also seen a boost in traffic from related keywords. So use this site so find the right provider for you. Read the reviews, visit a few, compare and make your choice!

P.S. If you are like me and need to share the vpn on your network or connect to a Freeview box, Boxee or Sony Media Player get yourself a VPN compatible router from DD-Routers.com

Peace.

Belarus tightens control over Internet with new law

{ Posted on Jan 06 2012 by admin } in Categories : General

Taking effect from today, the new Belarusian internet law requires service providers and internet cafes to identify all users and log all surfing activity including websites visited. The law is intended to ban people from accessing opposition sites banned by the ruling party and especially targets employees at state-run companies and organizations, as well as cultural and educational institutions. The current President has been called Europe?s last dictator and has been in office since 1994. I believe the new law which was reported on by Washington Post, will lead people to look for ways to protect their privacy and freedom so naturally VPN and proxy usage is likely to increase.

{ Posted on Nov 16 2011 by admin } in Categories : General

You have probably seen them on tv lately protesting in major US cityies, camped out in financial centers and confronting the police. But what you might not have thought off is that these guys need internet to function. Without constant Wifi they can’t organise through social media sites. Free Wifi has been setup at most camps but these it seems have been open to surveillience by law enforcement and nosey neighbours. Now the Free Network Foundation (FNF) is trying raise money through IndieGoGo funding platform to build a dedicated secured network for protestors worldwide. You can read on this at Fastcompany.com

Share your VPN with these DD-WRT routers

{ Posted on Aug 18 2011 by admin } in Categories : General

If you are one of the growing number of people who have several internet enabled devices at home such as a game console or TV and ever wondered how to get them to work with the VPN then here is the solution!

It’s called DD-WRT and it’s a open source firmware that can be installed or ‘flashed’ on many supported routers and besides being more powerful in general than the default router OS it has the ability to dial and share over NAT a PPTP vpn connection! I will not get into details on the flashing process, it can get complicated, but you can find info on that here.

Advertise on VPNReviews.com!

{ Posted on Jul 08 2011 by admin } in Categories : General

I am working on the ads system at the moment, should be live by the weekend July 10. Ads now live!

I have been getting requests for this for two year but have been too busy. The site is one of the most visited review sites on the internet and top 1-2 ranking on Google. Ads will most likely be on a monthly basis for Skyscrapers (120×600) and 125×125 boxes with additional premium service for higher priority rotation and top provider sponsored listing.

Currently the site is getting about 20K visits a month all from search engines by people looking for vpn providers. All reviews are customer submitted (ok maybe a few are fake but most are real) but review listing order is not for sale. The site generated 44 sales in the  first 30 days of 2012 to one of the top provider affiliate link alone. So think about what a site wide advertising campaign can mean to your sales!

PirateParty looks to vpn for votes

{ Posted on Apr 20 2011 by admin } in Categories : General

The Pirate Party in Canada is considering launching a VPN services in face of the possibility that the Conservative party might win the current Canadian elections and who are expected to pass bill that according to them will “provide unprecedented systematic interception and monitoring of Canadians’ personal communications”. The Pirate Party are therefore “preparing to extend the services presently offered to residents of repressive regimes to protect the people affected by the aspiring dictator right here at home.”

“We will provide VPN service to Canadians at a rate of $10 / 200GB. For every paid account we open, we will also provide a free VPN account to a citizen of a nation with censored internet,” said party leader Mikkel Paulson today.

I believe this recent press release is just meant to give them some extra attention and a possible boost before the elections and its smart move I must say. While perhaps it is not the most important news to most people, I did need something to write to about! :-)
