About RiseupVPN
Service overview
RiseupVPN is a hosted personal VPN service from the Riseup collective, not merely software for operating a private server. Its dedicated official page says it routes internet traffic through an encrypted connection and provides clients for GNU/Linux, macOS, Windows and Android. Installation does not require an account registration or a conventional paid subscription.
The service is donation-funded. Riseup estimates a cost of approximately $60 per user per year and asks users to contribute, but that figure is a suggested donation, not a compulsory annual price. The site describes RiseupVPN as an experiment in sustaining an accessible non-profit VPN. A finite trial period or a paid upgrade tier was not established in the reviewed pages.
Riseup says it does not log users’ IP addresses. The Windows documentation identifies an OpenVPN process and local troubleshooting logs; these should not be confused with a verified server-side logging audit. Desktop instructions describe connected, disconnected and traffic-blocked states, and the site also explains limitations common to VPNs. The older Bitmask-based Riseup Black service is described as replaced by RiseupVPN, so its retired account model should not be assigned to the current application.
This is a source-based service overview, not a hands-on review. No speed, streaming, leak or security tests were performed. Availability and commercial terms can vary by location, platform and payment channel; confirm the final order and applicable legal terms before subscribing.
